COMMISSIONS

Every portrait is a collaboration.

Time spent getting to know the sitter and an original photographic session help shape the direction of each commission.

From the selected image, the painting is developed slowly in oils.

DAVID PHILLIPS

What makes us who we are.

I have always been interested in the way we see people, not simply their appearance, but the small characteristics that make someone recognisably themselves.

Painting gives me the opportunity to explore this slowly, creating work that captures a likeness, but also something of the person behind it.
